In recent weeks, there has been non-stop gossip about the next Nintendo console. Fortunately, the Japanese gaming giant has done just that Finally gave us a first look at the Switch 2.
The short but sweet teaser confirms several design rumors that fans have long suspected… but also raises a lot of questions. Since Tech Advisor isn’t in the business of publishing articles as long as a dissertation, I’ve selected the most important ones of mine that I hope Nintendo will shed some light on in the future.
What will the graphics look like?
One of the main rumors about the new console, which has been around for years at this point, is the fact that it could support 4K content once docked, as well as other graphical improvements like ray tracing. Recent patents seem to indicate that Nintendo has been experimenting with upscaling technology.
If true, it would make it a serious competitor for rival consoles like the Xbox Series
If AI upscaling technology is used, there is hope that it could also be applied to existing Switch games. For example, I would kill to see a graphically enhanced version of Breath of the Wild. However, the graphics are not only important for docked gameplay.
Nintendo
Although the revealed teaser appeared to show a larger screen, there is also a question mark as to whether the Switch 2 will have an OLED panel. Other rumors suggest Nintendo is sticking with an LCD version, and I’m probably going to make a big deal about that.
Why? Well, Nintendo saw success by withholding an OLED version of its first Switch, which makes me…
Will Nintendo launch other Switch 2 versions?
When Nintendo reveals more about the Switch 2 during its Direct on April 2, 2025, it will almost certainly focus on the main console, which is currently predicted to get both a spec and a price increase on the Switch 1. However, it’s possible that These may not all have the features fans want, or the cost may be too expensive for some users to consider.
Does this mean we’ll get both a Nintendo Switch 2 (OLED) and a Nintendo Switch 2 Lite? Possibly. The former will be more likely when we get confirmation of an LCD panel on the Switch 2, which we’ll hopefully learn more about in the coming weeks.

As an owner of the Switch Lite and wife of a regular Switch owner, I definitely see benefits in having a handheld-only console. The lighter and thinner construction makes it much easier to travel, especially on planes and trains, or when you just have a backpack to put your stuff in.
But more importantly, it gives users on a tighter budget access to exclusive Switch 2 games. Fun titles like Animal Crossing fit perfectly on the Switch Lite, so if Nintendo were to release a successor for this console, it could wait until the next game in this series hits the shelves and the releases are timed.
How many new games will there be at launch?
When I buy a newly launched gaming console, I first want to know what games will be available.
If you stuck around until the end of the Switch 2 reveal, you’ll have seen some brief footage of Mario Kart. If you look closer, you’ll see that Donkey Kong looks a little different than usual, closer to the movie design (and admittedly, looking a lot more sleepless).
So that could mean that Nintendo has boldly added the first footage of Mario Kart 9, which will almost certainly be one of the key IPs for this next console.

Nintendo
I’m by no means a Mario Kart 8 master and rely on eerily loud Toad impressions aimed at the competition to scare them off. I’m still enjoying it though, so this is a big plus for the new console.
More titles would of course be even better. As I said, I’m a loyal servant to Tom Nook’s bank, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons being one of my most played games on console. The promise of a new installment in this series would be extremely exciting, as would a release date for Pokémon Legends: ZA.
Will my old Joy-Cons be useless?
Once the Nintendo Switch 2 hits shelves, we’ll almost certainly see a rise in the number of current users trying to trade in or sell their old console on eBay – times are tough during the cozy lives, after all. But what about those beautifully colored extra controllers we all bought for multiplayer games like Super Mario Party Jamboree?
We know that the new (tall, dark and handsome) Joy-Cons on the Switch 2 connect to the main screen in a different way than the old models, with the footage apparently showing some sort of magnetic snap-on. So the older and smaller clickable Joy-Cons won’t connect to this new console… but what if they could work wirelessly?

The charging handle means you can use the old Joy-Cons without the need for a Switch dock, and there’s the Switch Pro controller for those who prefer a more traditional gaming experience. Users can still trade in their main console while keeping additional accessories that may be hard to sell.
If Nintendo could somehow figure out a way to make this connect to the new console, it would certainly save waste and resources – and make many customers happy that they don’t have to pay extra. Backward compatibility games are a thing after all, so I have a tiny bit of hope that this could happen… even if it’s very small.
Okay, but is it also available in another color?
While I enjoy the black console with the accented Joy-Cons, I will forever be a technology journalist who advocates bold, bright and beautiful, and the Switch 2 is no exception.

Nintendo
The original Nintendo Switch launched in two color options: one with gray Joy-Cons and one with the iconic red and blue set. Moving on, the company launched special editions to celebrate various game launches such as Tears of the Kingdom and Splatoon 3.
I’m pretty confident that Nintendo will do the same for the Switch 2, and I’d even bet there’s a secret version of this console in a new shade that we haven’t seen yet that will be dramatically released in April revealed. .
