TK Strand and husband Carlos Reyes have gone through the ringer 9-1-1: Lone star – and the hits just keep coming!
Ronen Rubinsteinwho plays paramedic TK, exclusively told We weekly that episode 7, which airs on Monday, November 11, will bring another curveball for the couple. ‘It’s the arrival of Enzo and Jonah and [we’ll see] what that’s going to do to TK and Carlos,” he said, referring to TK’s stepfather, Enzo, and half-brother, Jonah, who came to Austin.
“Just when you think everything is going to go smoothly and they’ve had this great moment on their anniversary, they throw another wrench in their relationship,” Rubinstein, 30, teased.
During the October 21 episode of the Fox show, TK and Carlos (Rafael L. Silva) went to couples therapy to resolve some issues. At the end of the episode, they celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary.
Carlos presented TK with an empty box, which he said he will use to store his Texas Rangers work files when he gets home. TK was touched by the gesture, because Carlos’ search for his father’s killer – and other cases – has sharpened their time as spouses.
“Honestly, I think these two can handle it right now,” Rubinstein said Us about what’s next for the beloved TV couple named Tarlos. “Their dedication to each other is otherworldly. They are such couple goals. It’s surreal.”
While Rubinstein hinted that TK and Carlos will have to shake up their lives when Enzo and Jonah surprise him for his 30th birthday, the actor said that TK and his father, Owen Strand (Rob Lowe), will have to solve more problems during the visit.
“I think Enzo’s arrival will throw a huge wrench in that relationship,” Rubinstein teased. “We’re going to learn so much more about TK and Owen’s true backstory in New York. Because Enzo was actually the one who raised TK when he was a kid, and Owen wasn’t really there.
9-1-1: Lone star began when Owen moved from the Big Apple to Austin with his son TK to start over after the tragic events of September 11th. The father-son pair started out together at Firehouse 126 in Texas before TK became a paramedic at the same firehouse.
During the series, fans met Owen’s ex-wife and TK’s mother, Gwen Morgan (Lisa Edelstein), who later died. The writers also revealed that during his childhood, Gwen began dating a man named Enzo, whom she dated again years later, and welcomed a second son, Jonah.
Viewers have yet to meet both characters in person, but that will change in the next episode.
“We’re finally going to dig deeper into what that actually looked like and what that did to TK, which he hasn’t revealed yet,” Rubinstein said. Us of Enzo’s storyline, calling it “powerful stuff” that TK and Owen will have to deal with.
The actor hinted that the father-son dynamic will create a “love triangle between Enzo, TK and Owen” as they try to navigate how they all fit together after Gwen’s death.
“Enzo is very special to me because since Season 1 I was always daydreaming, ‘Who could this Enzo be and who are we going to play him?’” Rubinstein said. “And what that dynamic will look like. And I think they did an absolutely beautiful job. It’s quite fascinating.”
Rubinstein called this fifth and final season of the show the “best season yet” and promised a “happily ever after” as it comes to a close. (In September, news broke that season 5 will be the last 9-1-1: Lone star.)
“[I] has been surprised so many times over the past five seasons. I feel like TK has had the craziest storylines and I got to do some of the craziest things on the show,” he shared Us. “They exceeded my wildest expectations, especially this season.”
Rubinstein explained that the writers “knocked that out of the park too” with TK’s stories of Enzo and Jonah.
9-1-1: Lone star airs on FOX Mondays 8pm ET.
