The fight camp went anything but smoothly Kayla Harrison … the UFC star tells us she was in the hospital and “peed blood” the week before UFC 307!
The 34-year-old bantamweight joined Babcock on the TMZ Sports TV program (broadcast every evening FS1) on Monday… where she revealed the lead-up to the Boiler Vieira the scrap didn’t go quite as planned.
“I’m still learning. I’m still growing. I feel like there’s still a lot of room for improvement for me. It definitely wasn’t my best night in the cage,” says Kayla, adding… “There were a few many things happened.”
“You know, I don’t like to make excuses. I had to go to the hospital the week before, I had to pee blood and there was all sorts of things going on. So I don’t like to make excuses, but that was I’m sure ‘I won’t be at my best in the cage on Saturday night And I know I can do it, get better and grow from it.’
Despite health issues and fighting a very dangerous opponent, Kayla still won by unanimous decision…although it was a somewhat competitive fight. Vieira even made Harrison bleed, something none of her previous 18 opponents could do.
We asked KH what was going through her mind when she felt the drop of blood running down her face.
“Honestly, my kids can’t come to my fights anymore because my first thought was, ‘My kids are seeing this.’ And that’s not a thought I have to have when I’m in a cage. I don’t have to think about my kids seeing me bleed. So that was my first one,” Kayla explained.
“I went into mom mode. I was like, ‘Oh my God, I hope they know I’m okay.'” 😅
She was doing well… and now the question is what’s next.
Naturally, all four women at the top of the division were in action on Saturday. Rachel Penningtonthe champion going into the night lost by (albeit) controversial split decision Julianna Pena. And Kayla, in third place, defeated Ketlen, in second place.
Harrison will probably take the number one spot… but that doesn’t necessarily mean Kayla vs. Julianna (who don’t like each other) is next – because Amanda Nunes is also in the photo.
We asked Harrison which fight she would prefer… Pena for the UFC title, or Nunes in what could potentially be the biggest fight in women’s MMA history.
“I want both. Can’t I have both?” Kayla asked.
“I want to win the title, give Amanda time to get back in shape and train. She can train for me all the time. I’m going to get Julianna in trouble real quick, and then Amanda and I can fight. “
Brace yourself, it’s going to be interesting…
