JoJo Siwa turned heads when she sported a blinding bump during a recent photo shoot — and now she’s explaining her decision behind the controversial outfit.
“The stone protrusion is… we just added a little spice, a little gender bending, a little: you can be anything you want to be,” Siwa, 21, explained during a recent appearance on the “Talk Toeah” podcast. “Spice it up a little.”
Siwa compared her Ladygunn Magazine look at Harry Styles‘ Cover shoot 2020 with Fashionwhere the former One Direction band member, 30, wore a white lace Gucci dress and jacket.
“It’s kind of like when Harry Styles wore a dress,” she said. “Wearing a bump is obviously a little different than just wearing a dress, though.”
While explaining her choice to don the bump, Siwa reflected on her decision to push boundaries.
“One thing about me is that I like to be there for the people who are different, for the people who don’t fit in and for the people who are just not afraid to take risks,” Siwa said. “I feel like being that person, I have to go as far into the risk zone as possible. I have to explore the risk zone to see what it is like.”
Siwa posed for the magazine in September in a nude strapless bedazzled top with nipples and built-in abs. She paired the corset with a glittery codpiece (which contained the prosthetic bulge) and crystal-embellished gold combat boots. For her glamour, done by Euphoria make-up artist Doniella Davythe former Dance mothers star wore vibrant colors. Her split brown and blonde hair was parted to the side and blown out by the stylist Isaac Davidson.
Fans were quick to share their thoughts on the look in the comments section. “No hate, I’m honestly just confused,” one user wrote, while another added: “It’s not a good day to have eyes.”
Others praised Siwa’s outfit, writing: “Omg this is soooo camp I love it,” while another added: “Like Lady Gaga If this was fair, you’d all eat it.”
Siwa has been known for making statements over the years with her bold colors and funky hair accessories. While Siwa was known for wearing bows earlier in her career, Special forces alum said she’s now going for a more “mature” look.
“The bow is still part of my life,” she said during a chat with Instagram Head Adam Mosseri in June 2021. “I still love bows. I will do that forever. I mean, they are who I am. I, you know, maybe I won’t wear it [bows] every day,” she told the publication.
