Huge amounts of snow in the mountains this week portend a great weekend of skiing, including four ski areas ready to open for the season.
Copper Mountain, which has received 28 inches since the line of storms began on Sunday, Winter Park (16) and Breckenridge (14) open Friday. Eldora, which also gained 14 inches, opens Thursday. Sixteen ski areas have received a foot or more in the past five days, including Wolf Creek with 21 inches and Echo Mountain with 17, according to OpenSnow’s forecasting and reporting service.
This week’s openings bring the number of operating ski areas to seven. Wolf Creek opened on October 22nd. Keystone and Arapahoe Basin opened Saturday.
The opening of Eldora will take place eight days earlier than previously planned. It is open with the Alpenglow Chair in operation from 9am to 4pm on weekdays and from 8.30am to 4pm on weekends. There will be three routes open with a height difference of 300 meters. There will be no beginner area available. A small terrain park will also be open.
More snow is in store for the rest of the week. Wolf Creek is expected to receive another 6 inches over the next five days. according to Open Snow. Seven other areas are forecast to receive six inches or more, including Monarch (12), Echo Mountain (11) and Eldora (10).
