Every sitcom needs a fictional couple for fans to root for, and so it is St. Denis MedicalAre Matt and Serena our next Jim and Pam?

During an exclusive interview with We weekly for St. Denis Medicalpremiere on Tuesday, November 12 Mekki Leeper And Kahyun Kim (who play Matt and Serena) wholeheartedly supported the idea.

“They certainly are,” said Kim, 35, before Lepper, 30, added: “Certainly in the sense that in the early seasons – which we are currently in – we are wondering: will they or won’t they?”

Lepper encouraged viewers to keep an eye on Matt and Serena as Season 1 played out. “It’s on our minds every day,” he noted. “And there’s just no way to tell [yet] whether they want it or not.”

From Maxton Hall’s Ruby and James to My Lady Jane’s Jane and Guildford, TV couples have fed us this year. There have been a lot of fictional relationships we wanted to see come to life in 2024, but the best surprises came from the pairings we didn’t expect to fall in love with this year. Prime […]

Creator Eric Ledgin wouldn’t rule out a possible romance between Matt and Serena Us“There’s certainly at least a one-sided will-they-or-won’t-they thing going on. So I can tell you that it will definitely be a slow burn of something that we will monitor over time.

After working on shows like Super store – who had their own favorite fictional couples – Ledgin didn’t want to follow the same steps with the characters St. Denis Medical.

“Working on it Super store and because I felt like I was part of that story, for me it was about not wanting to do that again with the main characters,” he admitted. “So it felt a little bit more fun to kind of give someone a pie in the sky to see if they can win this person over, and that’s something that we can track over time. It’s fun to write, but I also like that it’s not the central part of the show.

St. Denis Medical follows overworked doctors and nurses as they do their best to care for patients at an underfunded hospital in Oregon. NBC’s newest mockumentary stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kaliko KauahiLeeper and Kim.

“It’s so much fun to be in a mockumentary. I cherish the moments when I can look into the camera and have that relationship,” Kim said Us. “It’s especially nice with Serena because she is so honest and you can really see how she feels in her face. I like having that connection with the audience in that way.”

Leeper meanwhile called his time on the St. Denis Medical “a blast,” adding, “I grew up wanting to be on a show The office or Parks and recreation. Then I think there were some years where they didn’t make that many shows like that. There was someone like Quinta Brunson [from Abbott Elementary] to blow the doors open again so that shows like this are popular.

According to Leeper and Kim, the biggest challenge when making a show St. Denis Medical remembers to look at the camera.

TV couples fall 2024 that should get together

Disney/Chris Willard; SteveSands/NewYorkNewswire/MEGA From Buck and Eddie on 9-1-1 to Benson and Stabler on Law & Order: SVU, there are a lot of fictional couples – or almost couples – that deserve our attention this fall TV season. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni) may seem like the obvious choice, but they’ve been dating for almost 25 years. […]

“It took a hot second to get used to it. Personally – for me – once I got used to it, I took every moment I could to look into the camera. I love it,” Kim said Us. “It’s so fun to explore that space where I’ve never been, because we’re so used to hearing, ‘Don’t look at the camera.’ So for me it’s a blast.”

Leeper felt that filming a mockumentary offers “an extra dimension” for the actors.

“You have a whole bonus room that’s never available and you can really put whatever you want in it. It’s different for everyone because Wendi looks at the camera differently than David does,” he explained. “Ron and Serena, they are characters who are always tired of the person in front of them. Joyce tries to cover herself to make the hospital look nice. Matt always gets caught doing something embarrassing. So it’s great to have that as a tool. Just joking on camera is so fun and satisfying.”

St. Denis Medical airs on NBC Tuesdays at 8pm ET. before streaming on Peacock the next day.
