The gang played one of George’s biggest hits, “Troubadour”… and the crowd gave him a standing ovation when he took the mic.
Jamey took part in the tribute alone days after his arrest in nearby Williamson County, TN for drug possession and speeding. He’s written songs for George and Willie over the years… so he wouldn’t miss this.
George joked during his acceptance speech that the tribute covers of his songs were so good that he was glad he was old enough to record them first. 😆
Previous winners of the CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award include… Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Charley proud, Kris Kristofferson and Willie himself.
Pretty good company… but make way for the King!!!
