The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders’ epic performances depend as much on their endurance as they do on their iconic high kicks.
According to a new profile of the team in Fashionpublished on Wednesday, November 27, a cheerleader’s fitness tracker read 24,000 steps after the Cowboys’ 34-10 loss to the Houston Texans on Monday, November 18.
“That doesn’t count a jump split,” another cheerleader nearby joked about the impressive number.
According to the Marathon Handbookthe average marathon runner takes approximately 52,400 steps during a 42.2 mile race.
The cheerleaders – who took the field on Thursday, November 28 for the Cowboys’ annual Thanksgiving Day game, this year against the New York Giants – gained even more fame earlier this year with the release of the Netflix docuseries. America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaderswhich became a phenomenon on the streamer and has been renewed for a second season.
But their increased fame doesn’t mean they don’t still do the dirty work.

The squad spends hours in rehearsal before each home game at The Star, the Cowboys team headquarters in Frisco, Texas. From there, the cheerleaders all take a bus from Frisco to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, a trip of about 37 miles.
Some of the cheerleaders mentioned it Fashion they put on makeup for about two hours before getting on the bus, and some do it again once they arrive at the stadium.

The dancers are in motion more than two hours before kickoff, performing for fans outside AT&T Stadium before heading to the sidelines for hours of endless movement during the game.
While the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have created an image of being pristine and flawless, there is very real dirt when you pull back the curtain.
“Ew, ew, ew,” said a cheerleader as he pulled off a sock that was soaked with sweat.
Another cheerleader named Reece said, “It’s just one of those things you have to get through.”
After an afternoon and evening of being on their feet all the time, the cheerleaders will board the bus tonight at 11:22 PM for the long trip back to Frisco.
