“The Old Man” has been canceled after two seasons on FX.
The series, based on Thomas Perry’s novel of the same name, starred Jeff Bridges as veteran and former CIA agent Dan Chase. Season 1 followed Chase after he killed an intruder in his home and went into hiding. In Season 2, he and former FBI Assistant Director Harold Harper (John Lithgow) – who planned to arrest him in Season 1 – work to retrieve Chase’s daughter, Emily (Alia Shawkat), after she is kidnapped by the powerful Afghan tribal leader Faraz Hamzad. Navid Negahban), although Harper and Hamzad also claim her as their own.
In addition to Bridges, Lithgow, Shawkat and Negahban, the cast of Season 2 of “The Old Man” included Jacqueline Antaramian as Khadija Hamzad, Amy Brenneman as Zoe McDonald and Gbenga Akinnagbe as Julian Carson. Season 1 also featured EJ Bonilla as Raymond Waters and Bill Heck as young Chase.
“The Old Man” premiered in June 2022 and was a success among critics while drawing strong viewers. Season 2 concluded its run in October of this year and maintained the positive reception of the initial installation, although the two years the series was off air saw a decline in viewership.
Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine developed “The Old Man” for television and served as executive producers alongside Dan Shotz, Warren Littlefield, Bridges, David Schiff, Craig Silverstein and Jon Watts. 20th Television produced the series in association with the Littlefield Company.
