"Arctic" cold, wind chill of 30 below zero

Bundle up, Colorado! There will be freezing temperatures, wind and snow in Denver this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Light snow fell in the mountains of Northern Colorado on Tuesday morning, That’s what NWS forecasters said. That snow is expected to make its way into Denver and across the Eastern Plains on Friday, signaling the start of a frigid weekend.

“An arctic air mass will bring bitterly cold air to Colorado beginning Saturday and Monday evening,” NWS forecasters said in a Dangerous weather warning.

Forecasters say most of northern and central Colorado will see temperatures below zero degrees this weekend.

Overnight lows are expected to reach minus 15 to minus 20 in metro Denver, the Interstate 25 Corridor and the Eastern Plains, forecasters said in the outlook. The windchill can make it feel like 30 degrees below zero.

The coldest daily forecast for Denver this weekend is Sunday. Temperatures peak around 6 degrees and drop to above minus 10 at night on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Areas south of Denver, including Parker and Castle Rock, are expected to see lows closer to minus 15 over the weekend, NWS forecasters said.

Light, sporadic snow will continue to fall in the Denver area through Sunday. forecasters said. It’s still unclear how much snow will fall, but NWS forecasters said there is the potential for several inches of dry, fluffy snow.

The coldest temperatures will hit northern Colorado, especially near Kremmling and Waldon, forecasters said. These cities can expect temperatures of around minus 15 and 17 days this weekend.

Denver and the rest of the state will gradually warm back up starting Tuesday, with temperatures expected to hover around 30 degrees. forecasters said.
