On Friday, Colorado’s Commissioner of Agriculture suspended the license from an Englewood animal rescue that took a Rabies-positive puppy last year, resulting in the forced euthanasia of a dozen dogs.
Mothers and Mutts Colorado Rescue for pregnant and nursing dogs was ordered To surrender all dogs to recognized hiding places and rescue organizations.
According to the state, After last year’s rabies, the rescue in January and February did not succeed in insulating puppies that suffered from hookworm infections and were exposed to a littermate with symptoms of rabies.
The dogs were held in temporary pens near the front of the Englewood facility and were not separate from each other or the pets of rescue workers. Three of the dogs had to be placed next to the puppy, which eventually tested negative on rabies.
Two dogs also escaped from the facility during an inspection of January by the PET Animal Care and Facilities Act program of the agricultural department, according to the state.
“Based on the findings of the recent inspections, CDA believes that there is an imminent threat to the health and safety of Colorado and their owners,” wrote the Agriculture department in the release.
Rescue founder Aron Jones fired back to the state A Facebook video Posted on Friday and said that the salvation was used as a “political pawn” to promote legal changes that would effectively ban the import of dogs that are less than 12 weeks old.
Jones said that the claims of the State about the incorrect treatment of puppies this year are “completely untrue” and that rescue has evidence in the form of videos, e -mails and SMS messages that are presented in court.
“It is made up and they just try to use us like a pawn,” she said. “I have great confidence and an even bigger mouth, and I am not going to stop because this will not only influence Mamco. This will influence the rescues of Colorado. “
The State said in its release that a hearing of the administrative court will be planned “in the near future” to revise alleged violations of state rules by the rescue.
