On July 24, 1969, the Apollo 11 astronauts – two of whom were the first humans to set foot on the moon – landed safely in the Pacific Ocean.

In 2013, 79 people were killed in an accident involving a high-speed train outside Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain.
