1996’s Twister, starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, was a huge hit that blew audiences away with its spectacular depiction of storms. It took 28 years to make a sequel, but it felt like a real tornado when it hit.
Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, Twisters is a standalone sequel to the previous film. It follows a former storm chaser, Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones), and social media star Tyler Owens (Glen Powell) as they become caught in the middle of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma.

The film premiered in the US on July 19, 2024. Tickets can be purchased on the AMC and Fandango websites.
UK viewers can get tickets from Cineworld, Odeon and Vue.

When could Twisters be released on VOD?
Universal Pictures and Warner Bros., which co-produced Twisters, have not yet released information about the film’s digital release. However, Forbes has reported that it expects the film to release on VOD platforms on August 13, 2024.
The streaming tracking data it used to verify this information has been correct in the past, but there’s no official word on this release yet. Plus, Twisters is still performing well in the US and has done very well at the box office worldwide – so it could just be a rumor.
The studio’s most successful releases typically appear on VOD a month and a half to two months after they open in theaters. However, the 2023 blockbuster Oppenheimer hit digital four months after its cinematic release.
If Twisters doesn’t delay the digital release, and if the above rumor is false, then we expect it to arrive early to mid September 2024. However, if it follows the same pattern as Oppenheimer, it may not arrive until November 2024.

When could Twisters be released on DVD/Blu-ray?
Physical copies of Universal’s most successful films typically hit stores a month or two after digital release.
Interestingly enough, Oppenheimer was released on DVD and Blu-ray on the same day as it was on VOD. If Universal wanted to wait longer to bring Twisters to home media, it could also combine both releases.
In either scenario, physical copies of Twisters could end up in stores end of autumn 2024.

When could Twisters be released on streaming services?
In the US, Twisters, distributed by Universal Pictures, will first stream on Peacock.
However, in Europe and Great Britain the film is distributed by Warner Bros. That means that while in Europe Twisters will be released on Max, UK viewers will be able to catch the film on Sky Cinema and Now.
For now, it is unknown when the film will be available for streaming. Based on previous releases, we estimate this could happen about a month and a half after the DVD premiere. For example, Twisters can fall on Peacock, Max and Now in November/December 2024.
However, if we again use Oppenheimer as an example, the film may not appear on streaming platforms until 2025.
