After many years of interruption, and too much surprise, Acer returned to the portable technical market with a Samsung Galaxy Ring and Oura Ring 4 rival.
The Acer Freesense ring was a surprising announcement on Computex 2025, a tech show in Taipei that was usually aimed at laptops and PC gear. Portable technology such as this is normally leaked in advance, but not in this case.
As you would expect, the Freesense ring is comparable to other smart rings on the market, designed to be worn on your finger or thumb with biometric sensors on the inside.
The ‘advanced’ design is made of an ultra-light weight titanium alloy, which will come in shiny black or matt roségouden finishes and seven sizes (7-13).
It is also IP68/5atm fabric and water resistant, 2.6 mm thick and weighs 2-3 g depending on the size.
It is important that there is no subscription costs for paying compared to the Oura Ring 4. And compared to the rest of the market, including the Samsung Galaxy Ring, the Freesense ring is one of the cheapest smart rings for $ 199-250.

According to Tom’s Guide, who says it will be released in August.
With the help of his series of sensors, the Acer Freesense ring can follow things such as your heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels and sleep.
As you would expect for a gadget like this, AI is involved, whereby the corresponding App Wellness insights and suggestions will suggest based on the data collected.
“With functions such as sleeping stage analysis and continuous tracking, the Acer Freesense helps to encourage proactive health management and lifestyle awareness,” said Acer.
The big question is whether the Freesense ring can do its data collection and processing well enough compared to important rivals while stays long enough. It was rated on four days, which is behind the pace.
Acer may also have some tricks in the sleeve in terms of the Freesense ring that works with its other devices, such as laptops. A few neat gestures would be an interesting lures.
The last Acer Wearable we saw was the liquid Leap+, which appeared on MWC 2015! I still hope for a Google Pixel Smart Ring.
