All3Media's BBC-Amazon Hit Series 'Boat Story' sets the Indian version

All3Media International’s thriller ‘Boat Story’, originally commissioned by BBC One and Amazon Freevee, is headed to India. Mumbai-based Locomotive Global Media has acquired the exclusive rights to adapt the series for the Indian market.

The 6×60′ thriller, which debuted in 2023, was written by Harry and Jack Williams and produced by Two Brothers Pictures in association with All3Media International. Mayank Sharma, known for creating Prime Video India’s ‘Breathe’, will helm the Indian adaptation as showrunner and director, while Locomotive Global Media will handle production.

“Boat Story” follows two moneyless strangers who discover a cocaine stash on a shipwrecked ship. Their plan to sell it and split the profits leads them into a web of intrigue involving law enforcement officers, masked killers and a clean-cut gangster known as ‘The Tailor’.

This acquisition marks Locomotive Global Media’s continued focus on bringing international formats to Indian viewers, following their adaptation of “Ray Donovan” for Netflix India. No platform has yet been revealed for the ‘Boat Story’ adaptation.

Roshni Ghosh, producer at Locomotive Global Media, said: “We are pleased with our ability to adapt international formats for the Indian audience. We are excited to bring ‘Boat Story’ to India, working with creative minds and our partners at All3Media International to present stories that deliver an entertainment experience.”

Jaenani Netra, VP, sales ready and formats (Asia) at All3Media International, said: “This partnership marks our first scripted format deal together. ‘Boat Story’ is both a thriller and a dark comedy drama. With Mayank Sharma and Locomotive Global Media leading this adaptation, we look forward to seeing ‘Boat Story’ take shape.”

Sharma said, “I am very happy to be working on the adaptation of ‘Boat Story’. It’s a fun, insanely entertaining show with relatable yet quirky characters that will keep you interested until the end. While we strive to retain the essence of the original, we are excited to bring local flavor and fresh perspectives to our version, which features an action-packed, humor and thrill-packed show tailored specifically for the Indian viewer.
