Food allergies occur when the body’s immune system reacts to certain proteins in food. Food allergic reactions vary in severity of mild symptoms in which beehives and lip swelling into severe, life -threatening symptoms, are often called anaphylaxis, which can entail fatal breathing problems and shock. Although promising prevention and therapeutic strategies are being developed, food allergies cannot currently be cured. Early recognition and learning how to manage food allergies, including which foods they should avoid, are important measures to prevent serious health consequences.
