Disney vet Alexandra Weinberger has joined Amazon MGM Studios in the newly created role of head of YA and ongoing comedy series.
Three years ago, Amazon MGM Studios (then just Amazon Studios) organized its leadership team to focus on three areas: development, series, and IP and talent management. In her new role, Weinberger will lead a team that will oversee select YA and first-season comedy shows from Amazon MGM Studios. At Prime Video, the list of applicable upcoming titles includes ‘Cruel Intentions’, ‘We Were Liars’. ”, “Motorheads”, “Off Campus”, “Every Year After”, “Overcompensation” and more – as they enter their second season.
As head of YA and comedy series, Weinberger will report directly to Laura Lancaster, head of co-production television and ongoing series at Amazon MGM Studios.
Most recently, Weinberger was a producer and creative consultant on the Dear Media podcast “Coming in Hot.” Previously, she spent 21 years at Disney in various brand leadership roles, including ABC Studios, where she was a senior executive in current programming and oversaw the Shonda Rhimes-created series “Private Practice,” “Scandal,” “Scandal.” Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19,” as well as “Brothers and Sisters,” “Dirty Sexy Money” and “Eli Stone” from Greg Berlanti Productions.
Previously, Weinberger led comedy series development at Touchstone Television, where she oversaw several then-current series, including “Scrubs” and “My Wife & Kids,” and prior to that, she was series manager at ABC Entertainment, where she led day-to-day operations. overseeing shows such as “Spin City,” “Dharma and Greg,” “Home Improvement” and “The Drew Carey Show.”
