Analyst highlights an important reason why Shedeur Sanders is no better than Cam Ward

ESPN analyst Aaron Schatz identified mobility as the decisive factor that Miami Quarterback Cam Ward places in Colorado Sanders. His assessment comes in the context of the 2025 NFL Draft Quarterback rankings, despite the superior accuracy of Sanders.

In his ESPN article on Sunday, Schatz explains why Ward scores higher than Sanders despite some statistical disadvantages.

“Sanders was more accurate than Ward, but recruiting his min-0.5 hurrying per attempt in 2024 (min-0.6 in his career) worked against his superior accuracy,” said Schatz.

“If Sanders’ projected design position were the same as Ward’s, their Qbase projections would be closer. But it is important to note that in the most recent classes (from 2018 to the present), mobile quarterbacks such as Ward have performed better in the NFL.”

The figures support this assessment. Ward placed 3.4 Hasten recruiting per attempt in 2024 and surpasses the negative rush production of Sanders. Sanders set the completion rate of the career FBS at 71.8% and completed an FBS-leading 74% of his passes in 2024.
