Google recently launched the Android 15 mobile operating system for its Pixel phones, but it won’t be long before it’s time for another upgrade. The company announced on its developer blog that Android 16 will launch in the first half of 2025.

There are at most about nine months between the launch of Android 15 in mid-October this year and the planned launch of Android 16 for the end of June next year. We could already see it in April.
“We are planning the major release for Q2 instead of Q3 to better align with the schedule of device launches in our ecosystem, so more devices can get Android’s major release sooner,” Google said.
In addition to the release of Android 16 in the second quarter of 2025, Google will also release an update for the mobile operating system at the end of 2025.
“Going forward, Android will have more frequent SDK releases, with two releases planned in 2025 with new developer APIs. These releases will help accelerate innovation across apps and devices, with greater stability and sophistication for users and developers,” Google said.
We haven’t heard any rumors yet about what new features we’ll see in Android 16, but that will likely change very soon.
