Apple has released no fewer than ten models of its regular iPad since the tablet first launched in 2010.
While Mini, Air and Pro models often get the most attention, there are no signs that Apple will abandon its standard model anytime soon.
According to the latest report, a new 11th generation model is indeed possible next year, and there are plenty of rumors about what we can expect.
When will the new iPad (11th generation) be released?
While we saw new iPad Air and iPad Pro models earlier in 2024, there’s no sign of the regular iPad 11.
It was possible we’d see one of those two, or maybe both, launch alongside the iPhone 16, but we only got the Apple Watch Series 10, a new Ultra 2 colorway, and new AirPods.
Granted, the iPad mini 7 is now in stores, but Apple is still silent about the new regular iPad.

In March, Mark Gurman reported on Bloomberg that the latest iPad “won’t be released until the end of the year at the earliest.”
Now Gurman claims that Apple is moving forward with developing an entry-level 11th-generation iPad, which could launch alongside the iPhone SE 4 and the next iPad Air in the spring.
This means that the new iPad could appear in the future first half of 2025.
How much will the new iPad (11th generation) cost?
Here’s how previous generations of entry-level iPads were priced at initial launch:
As you can see, the 10th generation iPad was significantly more expensive than its predecessor, but this is unlikely to repeat itself.
In the same Bloomberg article mentioned above, Mark Gurman says it will “probably end up being a cheaper version of the tenth-generation model.” Assuming no downgrades (and a possible processor upgrade), this would be great news.
What specifications and features will the new iPad (11th generation) have?
In January 2023, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman hinted that the update for the entry-level iPad might not bring any significant changes – just updated internals, which may only include a processor. And it still remains the most likely vision of the future.
Previously an Apple tipster Majin Bu suggested that the 11th generation iPad would be equipped with an M2 chip, 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. While this is certainly an optimistic view, it would mean that the base specs of the current iPad Pro (6GB/128GB) would be inferior to those of this cheaper device.
However, the most likely improvement for the 11th generation iPad is the adoption of the A15 Bionic chip, due to the tradition of equipping every new entry-level iPad with a chip that is a generation older. The 10th generation iPad is powered by the A14 Bionic chip, making the A15 the logical choice for the upcoming model.
Majin Bu too suggests that the upcoming iPad will retain the same design as the 10th generation model, and that accessories will remain fully compatible.
Majin Bu is known for sharing rumors from various sources including Weibo, although the accuracy of the information may vary. In the post below, he also hinted at the release of the new 11th generation iPad in October, which we now know didn’t happen.
That said, the new entry-level 11th-generation iPad could potentially see improvements in other areas, such as support for the second-generation Apple Pencil. But it’s not yet clear what else could change.
Assuming the device arrives in late 2024 or later, the device may run native iPadOS 18. As usual, this will likely be a slightly tweaked version of iOS 18, which will make its debut on the iPhone 16 range.
