Aurora Mayor Pro Tem Dustin Zvonek resigns from the city council at the end of October, a year before the end of his term.
Zvonek announced his resignation during an Aurora council meeting Monday and did not go into detail about why he left.
“Sometimes in life you are thrown a curveball, or in my case it was several at once, and after a lot of thought and some difficult conversations, I have made a decision that is in the best interest of my family,” Zvonek said. in a brief statement during the meeting.
Zvonek was elected to the General Board in 2021 and is the founder and president of a consulting firm.
Zvonek thanked the rest of the city and city staff for their hard work, citing programs like Build Up Aurora and the city’s work-first homeless initiative as successes during his tenure.
“Each of my colleagues genuinely cares about the city and its people and pours their hearts into their work, even when it seems like we are talking past each other,” he said.
Mayor Mike Coffman thanked Zvonek for his service on council.
“Your leadership has been extraordinary on this council and you will be absolutely missed,” he said.
