Barack Obama joins Bluesky | Techcrunch

Social Network Bluesky, an alternative to X built on Open Source technologies, has scored a great victory in terms of attracting remarkable users to his platform. The company on Sunday confirmed That former President Barack Obama has joined his service.

Bluesky Ooo Rose Wang answered a message where someone wondered if the account that placed as Obama was legitimate by writing “confirmed!”

In his first few messages on the platform, Obama celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and called ‘a reminder that change is possible when we fight for progress’.

The former president maintains a large following on other social media platforms, including X and Facebook, where he has 130.6 million followers And 55 million followersrespectively.

I thought I would jump here today for the 15th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. With everything that is going on now, it is easy to feel that regular people cannot make a difference – but the ACA is a reminder that change is possible when we fight for progress.

However, Elon Musk’s X, the platform that is previously known as Twitter, has lost a number of users to alternative social networks, including Bluesky, after the American elections of 2024. Musk used X for campaign for President Trump and promotes Maga-released political views. He now also holds a prominent position in the Trump circle thanks to his involvement in Doge (Department of Government Efficiency), who has worked to reduce the workforce of the federal government, to reduce the spending and to dismiss government agencies.

It is not surprising that many left -loving American users no longer want to participate in X. Their exodus of the platform has led to a large bump in user growth for Bluesky at the end of 2024. Today the new social network has more than 33 million users and continues to grow.

Other American politicians are already active on Bluesky, including well-known names such as Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Al Green, Gavin Newsom and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who became the first person on Bluesky who held a million followers. Many others representatives, senators and governors have also become members of the network.
