Best New Electric Toothbrush of the Year – Winner: Oclean X Ultra S

The X Ultra S is Oclean’s latest flagship brush, and it’s a small, attractive model with a tapered, matte handle and a color touchscreen. When you brush, the screen will show a countdown timer, but you can also swipe it to switch between brushing modes.
But there are many more customization options in the app, where you can take a quiz and get a smart suggestion, and choose from one of 14 cleaning modes (for example, underwire, super whitening or travel). Or create your own custom mode, where you specify brushing time, mode and intensity level.
X Ultra S is a smart, advanced electric toothbrush
The brush has a high-visibility light ring pressure sensor and comes with high-quality accessories, including a USB charging case for travel. Another big plus is the battery life of 40 days. All in all, the X Ultra S is a smart, advanced electric toothbrush. And there’s one more feature: in Scientific Brushing Mode, it uses bone conduction technology to provide audio brushing tips on the go.

Best New Electric Toothbrush of the Year – First runner-up: Be Lucent Prism

This elegant brush from the Swedish brand Be Lucent. Instead of the black, diamond-shaped screen you see on most brushes equipped with it, the Prism has a hidden LED screen beneath its surface. On the display you can see which brushing mode you are in, the timer and battery indicator.
The brushing options are much simpler than those of the X Ultra S. It only has three modes: clean, sensitive and white. And when you pick it up and start brushing, it turns on automatically.
It has a phenomenal 60-day battery life, charges via USB and comes with a travel case for the brush heads, while the handle is lockable so it won’t turn on in your luggage.

Best New Electric Toothbrush of the Year – Runner-up: Oral-B iO Series 2

This year, Oral-B released its most affordable iO yet. While we don’t think this is for everyone (see our ultimate iO guide to finding the best model for you), it’s an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade from a manual brush. Much softer than most electric toothbrushes, it has three gentle brushing modes – super sensitive, gentle and everyday clean – and easy-to-use one-button operation.
It has a two-minute brushing timer, a small pressure indicator and – what could make it a hassle-free purchase – a battery life of several weeks, which is longer than any other iO model.
