Many stories on the site now if you want to overtake what you missed – and you should do that – but here are some highlights:

  • One of the recurring themes of the day was that President Donald Trump’s return to the Oval Office has drastically changed the practice of science. That could have fatal consequences, according to former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Tom Frieden. Talking about health and human service secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Frieden said that messing with vaccines and measles is a disaster in public health that waiting. Former head of the Food and Drug Administration Lead Scott Gottlieb had a similar message for the current health leader.
  • Everyone wants the wildly popular GLP-1 drugs to treat diabetes and obesity, and investors pour money into more research. But there is a catch, according to RO health leaders and health. The constant concern of the employer about costs and a lack of compliance remain stubborn obstacles for wider adoption.
  • Pioneer of gene therapy Jim Wilson spoke about how the field is currently being clouded with ‘irrational pessimism’. Wilson acknowledged that researchers still have to answer questions about the safety of long -term treatments. How would he alleviate investors? Read on.
  • And finally: Bill! Account! Account! Account! A panel about Bill Nye the Science Guy’s new adventure – increasing consciousness about Ataxia, a rare movement disorder – turned into a criticism of Kennedy and other health leaders. “We really try in planetary science to stay away from politics. But man, it’s really difficult now. This is so extreme.”

Handicap rights are attacked

The disabled community has been sharp since the inauguration of President Donald Trump. The administration has Targeted accessibilityBut the most important focus of their anger is to curb other diversity, fairness and inclusion efforts. Maybe this changes? Here are two handicap-related items for your consideration:

  • The Ministry of Justice deployed Documents on Wednesday that have given guidelines on the implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The documents have helped to navigate institutions through disabilities with regard to hospital visits, employees who wear masks and their rights during the COVID-19 Pandemie.
  • Last fall, 17 states have one court case claiming that section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 – a cornerstone of legislation on disability law – was unconstitutional. Who asks for help with the outbreak of TB

On Monday, World Tuberculosis is Day, and the World Health Organization marked the opportunity on Thursday by releasing a grim statement about how the United States’s retreat of the global health efforts is to combat tuberculosis.

He reported that serious disturbances in the tuberculosis response were seen in various countries, especially in parts of Africa, Southeast -Asia and the Pacific. Twenty -seven countries are confronted with malfunctions in their response. The news comes in the aftermath of the American doge service of Elon Musk, the reduction of financing for the congress established Agency US Agency for International Development.

Earlier this week, Helen Branswell quoted some handaa Enkh-Amgalan, a member of the WHO Civil Society on tuberculosis, to say about the cuts: “We are at the point of a crisis, a crisis, a crisis, a crisis, a crisis, a that borders, one that borders.”

A small part of the Ministry of Health and Human Services that focuses on quality, results and costs for healthcare is the newest agency in the sights of Musk’s US Doge Service.

Egg (price) drop? Not so fast

I welcomed last weekend when I saw the prices of the eggs fall at my cooperative from $ 8 to $ 5 per box. Unfortunately, I might have spoken too early: the Recent dip in wholesale egg The prices can turn quickly, writes the former head of the Food and Drug Administration Hoofd Scott Gottlieb.

North American flyways usually remain quiet in February, but with the spring approaching, wild birds resume their seasonal migrations, causing possibly renewed outbreaks of the deadly virus.

However, the health of poultry, and therefore the American public, is not an easy task. Health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has proposed to allow the virus to spread freely through herds, but that strategy is impractical and risky. Prevention is the best method and federal officials recently issued a five -step plan, but political and technical reality would also make this strategy more difficult. Read more to find out Gottlieb’s proposed solution.
