Broncos' Michael Wilhoite accused of punching agent on Denver Airport

Broncos outside Linebackers coach Michael Wilhoite is accused of hitting a police officer in the face at the drop-off line on Denver International Airport on Sunday, according to the court reports.

Wilhoite, 38, is confronted with a single indictment of crime abuse about the incident, according to judicial data. The police say that around 2.09 pm on Sunday he stopped in the East Terminal Drop-Off Lane, from his Ford Bronco from 2021 and left it unattended, according to a police statement submitted against Wilhoite.

An uniformed police officer of Denver who was assigned to the area approached Wilhoite when the coach returned to his vehicle and told Wilhoite that he could not leave his vehicle without supervision, according to the statement.

Wilhoite told the officer twice: “Close the (expletive) up,” the statement said. Wilhoite then approached the officer and “bumped his chest” in the officer, according to the statement. The officer pushed Wilhoite back and Wilhoite hit the officer in the face, the police claimed in the statement.

The officer fell on the floor and Wilhoite returned to his car, but when he opened the door to go inside, the officer shot his taser according to the statement. The Taser hit Wilhoite near his left hip and silk. The taser shocked him for a few seconds, then Wilhoite got into his car and drove away, according to the statement.

The officer had “visible injuries” on his knees, as well as jaw pain, according to the statement.

Wilhoite, who was later arrested, waited on Monday morning for his appearance in Denver County Court in a yellow jumpsuit of the prison. He was not fascinated and talked to the prison representatives before his hearing.

Magistraat Arnie Beckman proposed a bond of $ 5,000 for Wilhoite during the short hearing and said he was worried about the alleged violence.

“These are routine, everyday interactions that thousands of people successfully get through at the airport without attacking a police officer,” said Beckman. “That a routine, daily meeting became violent, is related to the court.”

Wilhoite’s lawyer, Stephen Burstein, refused to comment after the hearing, but said he expected Wilhoite to bind out of prison on Monday.

A Broncos Team spokesperson said earlier that the team was aware of the coach’s arrest and that the team collected more information.
