Brooke ShieldsDaughter is becoming more and more realistic about her health issues… and admits she’s been quietly dealing with diabetes for years — starting when she was just a high school student.
Rowan HenchyBrooke’s 21-year-old daughter whom she shares with director Chris Henchytalked to People in an article published Saturday … and she says she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was in her freshman year of high school.
Henchy says she knew something was wrong when she lost weight quickly, despite eating twice as much at every meal.
Add that to the worsening vision, frequent trips to the bathroom, and what she calls a “really bad toe infection”… and RH just knew something was very wrong.
Rowan says the diabetes and transition schools proved to be a problem for her… because she didn’t have many friends, so she had to work through depression while adjusting to her new normal.
Brooke says she thinks this has caused Rowan to grow up quickly, as she has to constantly monitor her glucose levels and inject herself with insulin, which causes her to grow up quickly.
In turn, Brooke is also aware of the condition… starring in a coming-of-age film ‘Quarter’ – focusing on a girl living with it.
It seems like mother and daughter are dealing with the diagnosis together… and they certainly aren’t letting it deter them!
