Charlamagne Tha God appeared on the December 4 episode of “The View” (via Entertainment weekly) and got into a debate with co-host Whoopi Goldberg after claiming Joe Biden lied when it came to forgiving his son, Hunter Biden, for felony gun and tax convictions. The president had previously vowed to withhold such clemency from his own family.
‘I’m going to stop you for a moment. Just because you don’t know it was a lie,” Goldberg told Charlamagne. ‘We don’t know why he changed his mind. I’m going to tell you what I think. I think he changed his mind because he got tired of looking at everyone else. At some point you get to the point where you just go, so I’m always going to follow the straight and narrow because that’s what is expected of the Democrats.
Charlamagne fired back, “But that’s their fault! They are the ones who go out and stand on this moral high ground, they don’t have to do that.”
“So we’re mad at him for changing his [mind]?” Goldberg asked Charlamagne, who replied: “I’m not mad at him for pardoning Hunter Biden. You sound like you’re angry!”
“Can you explain to me why it is that when Joe Biden does something, everyone clutches their pearls?” Goldberg later asked after co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin joined the conversation, noting that Biden had previously “made a point” of supporting integrity institutions before pardoning Hunter.
“No one has criticized Donald Trump more than me and Charlamagne Tha God!” Griffin told Goldberg in his defense.
“Yes, I criticized him more,” Goldberg said. ‘But you missed my question. My question is, what makes people confused with Joe, but we don’t have the same kind of things [with Trump]?”
Charlamagne had his own question for Goldberg: “Why can’t you tell when the Democrats are wrong, and why can’t the Republicans tell when the Republicans are wrong? Don’t you think Joe Biden is wrong?”
When Goldberg said no, Charlemagne responded that this was “ridiculous.” “No, you’re ridiculous,” Goldberg fired back.
‘I didn’t say that You were ridiculous, Mrs. Goldberg. I would never say that. I just think it is [ridiculous],” the radio host said before Goldberg asked him to “come over here and give me a kiss.” The two then hugged and let the tension dissipate.
Charlamagne Tha God has often led to tense encounters during his appearances on “The View.” He showed up an episode from May of the daytime talk show and called out the program’s hosts for pressuring interview guests to support politicians on the show. At the time, Sunny Hostin criticized Charlamagne for not publicly supporting Joe Biden.
