A 59-year-old man from the Chinese city of Chengdu, who has donated blood more than 300 times in the last 20 years and is known as the “Blood Donation King”, now needs financial help after he has suffered Ischemic stroke, according to The South China Morning Post. Yang Xiuwei, a resident of the province of Sichuan, suddenly fell at the end of January, when he went to visit a family member. His wife, Xie Suhua, took him to a hospital, where a cerebral infarction was diagnosed with him, also known as a stroke.
Even after his heroic act when donating blood for society, Yang is now charged with serious medical accounts and he appeals to the public during his recovery. His case aroused general sympathy, with many of them pity with him.
“A narrowing took place in the Cerebellum, Vermis and a primary blood vessel in his brain. The stroke happened in an acute way,” a doctor said. “He must be admitted to the hospital for observation for 10 to 14 days.”
Yang Xiuwei’s wife, Xie, said SCMP That Yang works like a cleaner, while she doesn’t have a stable job. Together they earn 3,000 Yuan (US $ 410) per month, depending on the mother of Yang, who is in the 90s, to subsidize their rental of her pension. Their son is a migrant employee in another city and did not return home to celebrate the New New Year with them.
Xie paid a down payment of 2,000 Yuan when her husband was admitted to the hospital, but after just a week of treatment, medical costs have already risen to 10,000 Yuan.
“Because this amount exceeds our financial capacity, we are planning to seek help from the public through a crowdfunding website,” she said.
It remains unclear what the total medical costs for Yang will be.
