School officials canceled classes for students at Littleton’s Bear Canyon Elementary School on Wednesday after the power went out.
“Due to a power outage at the school and in the surrounding neighborhood, Bear Canyon Elementary will be closed today,” Douglas County School District officials said in a statement at 8 a.m. “We are working closely with Xcel Energy and have learned that the repairs will not be completed in time for school today.”
All activities at the school — including before- and after-school clubs and sports — were also canceled Wednesday, DCSD officials said.
The cause of the power outage is currently under investigation and school officials said they would notify families and staff members whether classes would resume Thursday once repairs were completed.
From Wednesday 10.25 am Xcel’s outage map showed ten outages in the area, affecting more than 900 customers; the school is just one of the buildings without power.
Xcel reported no repair crews in the area.
