Rik Zanger acknowledges his role as the mastermind behind the infamous “Varsity Blues” college admissions scandal… but he’s already back to counseling prospective students while serving his sentence.
The controversial figure, who serves the rest of him 3.5 years in prison at a halfway house in California, told ‘GMA’ that even soon after the scandal broke – when it was revealed he helped wealthy children pay for special admission to elite schools – desperate parents still to inundate him with requests to pull the same strings for their own children.
Rick made it clear that after his prison sentence is completed, he is confident he can legally restart his business and help students go to college or into the workforce, especially since he is already doing that .
When it comes to the crimes he was accused of, Rick admitted he was 100% wrong. But when asked about the fairness of unethically giving someone a spot on a college sports team – while hard-working students are left in the dust – he showed little remorse, shrugging his shoulders and saying it was all up to the university coach.
He also added that he had never bribed anyone, and that word didn’t even cross his mind. Instead, he called the cash flow a “donation”… and continues to insist the entire scandal was a victimless crime.
