Six people, including two children, have been hospitalized after a serious crash on Thanksgiving Day at the intersection of East 120th Avenue and Potomac Street in Adams County.
The South Adams County Fire Department First posted Thursday afternoon about the crash on X. The department warned travelers that 120th was closed in both directions between Sable and Southgate boulevards.
“Several individuals have been taken to local hospitals with injuries that are currently unspecified. Our thoughts are with them and their loved ones during this difficult time,” department officials wrote in that message.
The crash occurred at 3:32 p.m. and was caused by one vehicle, a Jeep, that ignored a “traffic control device” on Potomac and entered the intersection, according to a summary released by the State Patrol.
Google Maps shows there are stop signs for traffic on Potomac, but no stop signs for vehicles on 120th Avenue at that intersection.
The Jeep struck the side of a Ford Escape SUV at the intersection. The driver and passenger of the Jeep were ejected from the vehicle and taken to a hospital with what state police officials described as “possible critical injuries.”
Two adults and two children riding in the Ford were also taken to a hospital. No information was immediately available on their injuries.
State police continue to investigate the collision and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have additional information to call 303-239-4501.
