An over-reliance on generative artificial intelligence (AI) reduces the creativity involved in producing products, according to a global brand.
“It takes away from the effort of your craft if you rely too much on AI,” said Canon Marketing (Philippines), Inc. product manager Jv Ruanto. Thursday during a product launch event.
He added that the artistic process of generating an output that does not use AI gives artists more pride.
“To be truly proud of your work, it is important that it comes 100% from you.”
Creatives, like photographers, should be able to produce a good result using only their skills and creativity, Mr Ruanto said.
“As a photographer you have to know what should be in the frame and what shouldn’t be in the frame,” he said of using AI to remove and add elements to photos.
Kara Moreno, a cinematographer, said a photographer’s skills don’t rely solely on cameras.
“Kayo ang magbibigay ng kapangyarihan doon sa camera [Users are the ones that empower cameras], it shouldn’t be the other way around.”
According to Anuj Aggarwal, president and CEO of Canon Marketing (Philippines), Inc., constant adaptation to new technology is the strength that sustains the company in the market.
With the rise of AI in the Philippines, Mr. Ruanto urged his consumers to use this innovation to learn and improve their photography skills.
“If you want to learn and you find that the AI is a tool to help you get better, then you should definitely (go).”
