GOP nominee Donald Trump’s musings on Fox News about why he chose Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance as his 2024 running mate — with Vance sitting right next to him — proved an awkward moment for critics of the Republican ticket on social media.
“We’ve always had good chemistry,” Trump told prime-time personality Jesse Watters in an interview that aired Monday.
“And originally JD probably wasn’t for me, but he didn’t know me,” the former president continued. “And when we met, he liked me, maybe more than anyone else. And he would stand up for me and fight for the worker as hard as I fight for the worker.”
“We just had an automatic chemistry,” Trump added.
Many of Trump’s opponents summed up the moment with one word: “cringe.”
