Cyber criminals earned more than $ 600,000 to sell stolen Taylor Swift tickets

Two people were arrested and lived for stealing more than 900 concert tickets from buyers and reselling on Stubhub for personal win, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced earlier this week. A majority of tickets was for Taylor Swift’s ERA Tour.

Tyrone Rose, 20, Van Kingston, Jamaica and Shamara P. Simmons, 31, Van Queens, New York, were each accused of grand Larceny, computer messing around and conspiracy and messing around with the computer, according to the announcement. The public prosecutor claimed that the two were part of a cyber crime crew responsible for the massive series of thefts that start in June 2022.

Katz said that the crew “operated a Maas in the law via an offshore ticket seller to steal tickets” for what it described as “the largest concert tour of the last decade”, together with other great events, to make an “extraordinary profit”.

About 993 tickets from “High Profile and High Value Events”, including the ERAs Tour and the US Tennis Open, were compromised between June 2022 and July 2023 from the Stubhub computer system, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Huffpost.

Detectives of the office of the public prosecutor said that Rose and another non-mentioned complicit were working at the Jamaica-based technology company Sutherland Global Services, which according to the complaint was contracted with Stubhub, according to the theft.

The employees used their access to the Stubhub’s computer system to reduce unique Ticket -Url’s, which would have been sent to the buyer, to E -mails from Simmons and another accomplice in Queens, New York. The people who originally made the purchase have never received their tickets.

Simmons and the other accomplice would then download the tickets of the diverted URL before they publish them back on Stubhub to sell at a higher value, according to the complaint. They earned around $ 635,000 of the scheme.

The lawyer of Simmons, Boris Nektalov, told Huffpost that his client is innocent and “anxious awaiting these allegations before the court”.

Stubhub told Huffpost that it has ended his relationship with Sutherland Global Services and that Rose and the co-sammerer are no longer employed by the contractor.

“When discovering this criminal schedule, we immediately reported it to the external customer service seller, Sutherland Global Services (SGS), as well as the Queens District Attorney’s Office and Jamaican law enforcement,” Stubhub said in a statement. “The persons involved, employees of SGS, have exploited a vulnerability of the system to continue selling tickets in a fraudulent way. They were quickly identified and ended. ”

The company added that the “all affected orders” replaced or repaid, and reinforced security measures to further protect our fans and sellers. ”
