“Daily Show” correspondent Ronny Chieng was shocked this week by President Joe Biden’s “garbage” comments… but for a different reason than everyone else.
‘Wait, wait a minute. Is Joe Biden still the president?” Chieng said Wednesday in apparent disbelief.
Biden was asked Tuesday about Tony Hinchcliffe, the comedian at a Donald Trump rally who called Puerto Rico a “floating island of trash.”
“The only trash I see floating around there are his supporters. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and un-American,” Biden said on a Zoom call. He later clarified that he was referring to the cartoon character who made the joke, but Trump and his supporters said Biden was trashing everyone on the right.
Chieng tried to figure out the context by playing more of Biden’s comments and discovered a confusing jumble of words.
“Oh, I understand,” Chieng said. “This man is damn old, and of course his brain is a floating pile of garbage.”
But no one on Biden’s team can come out and say it.
“The Democrats don’t want to concede that the president of the United States should not be allowed to use a computer without supervision,” he said. So they argue that the whole issue is about where to place the apostrophe and that Biden meant “supporters” – referring to Hinchcliffe – and not “supporters,” referring to all of Trump’s MAGA fans.
“This election really comes down to Nazis versus grammatical Nazis,” Chieng said.
