The first teaser for Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City was unveiled Friday at New York Comic Con, revealing that Lauren Cohan’s Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan will return to the AMC drama series in spring 2025.
The NYCC panel previewing the second season of the “Walking Dead” sequel series featured AMC’s “Walking Dead” franchise chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, executive producers and stars Morgan and Cohan (who will make her directorial debut this season ), and fellow “Dead City” Season 2 cast members Gaius Charles, Željko Ivanek and Dascha Polanco.
AMC’s “The Walking Dead: Dead City” follows fan-favorite characters Maggie (Cohan) and Negan (Morgan) as they travel to a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, long since cut off from the mainland, according to the series description. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and residents who have turned New York City into their own world of anarchy, danger, beauty and terror.
According to AMC’s tease of what’s to come in ‘Dead City’: In season two, in the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan find themselves stuck on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to the conclusion that the way out for both of them is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined.
During the NYCC panel, Gimple spoke about the possibility that other characters from the original long-running “Walking Dead” series, which ended in 2022, could appear in future seasons of “Dead City”: “I’m not telling you to to expect. But it is a layered universe and much of its history is important to the present. So it will be super satisfying if I say this: you never know. It is an option and a possibility.”
The series, which debuted Season 1 in six episodes in June 2023, airs on AMC and the network’s subscription streaming service AMC+.
