An outlet spoke to several people behind the scenes who expressed concern about Biden’s loss to a man the Democratic presidential campaign labeled a threat to democracy.
Between the president’s poor debate performance, the questions surrounding his cognitive skills, and the calls for the president to resign, things were bad enough. Then it went even further with the assassination attempt on Trump, which mobilized his party and followers. And on Monday, Florida Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the illegal documents case against the former president.
Matt Bennett, the co-founder of Third Way, a Democratic think tank, told the New York Times: “The atmosphere is grim. I haven’t spoken to a single Democrat who says, “Things are going well.” It is universal.”
However, some Democrats are still rallying around Biden. Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Donna Brazile told the newspaper: “I hope that every donor, every supporter, everyone who has watched Joe Biden fight over the last two and a half weeks, understands and appreciates that we owe so much to his strong, steely shoulders.”
She added: “If he’s not going to collapse under the weight of what’s happened over the last two and a half weeks, I don’t know why anyone else would.”
