Our opinion
It doesn’t matter if you have pets, difficult places to clean, or if your car seems to store crumbs for fun, the Dyson Car+Boat handheld makes cleaning up after yourself (and others) a fast and simple endeavor. This powerful portable vacuum is when having a heavy, dirty-debris-debris device in your back pocket but it comes with a few reservations.

When we talk about vacuuming, we often think of carpets and/or hardwood floors. But the grime busters among us will know that it is not only large surfaces that house dust and dirt.
What about the boot of your car? What about the corners and crevasses in your caravan? Or the crumbs lurking at the back of your couch?
Well, that is where the newly launched Dyson Car+Boat is on the task.
See our round-ups of the best vacuum cleaners and the best Dyson wireless models to compare the car+boat with our best recommendations.
Although I do not have a boat (not surprising), I apparently have a car that collects dust, just because it is possible. I also have stairs that are often overlooked during a deep beauty, and a sofa with many spaces to hide crumbs.
Although the jury is still out of whether this portable vacuum is best for boats can, after all, it is not used to pick up water or other liquids-after testing this heavy device in my car and other long forgotten places, I can confirm that the Dyson Car+Boat V8 rejects from dirt, debris and even microscopic dust particles that you didn’t even know existed.

But before you run outside to buy this Dust Buster, you just know if you already have a Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner, the car+boat is almost identical.
Design and Build
- Looks smart: heavy and aesthetically attractive
- Weighs 1.9 kg
- Dimensions: 20.6 (h) x 13.1 (W) x 33.1 cm (L)
- Has no ‘on/off’ switch, only the dreaded trigger
Dyson has locked his branding. I say this because you could place the car+boat in a line -up and without seeing the logo, you could still tell that it was a dyson. As you would expect, the Car+Boat comes in the classic gray, purple and red color scheme of the brand and it feels really sturdy.
The car+boat is part of the V8 Dyson family. The eagle eyes have seen the build of the car+boat, looks free to the Dyson V8-vacuum. At first glance it is almost identical, with the same two suction power modes and ‘point and shoot’ bin legend mechanism.

The most important differences that I have seen are that the Car+boat has an extra 10-minute duration, it is 64 g lighter and it is not supplied with a long stick, roof heads or a docking station. The Dyson V8 also costs £ 80 more than the Car+Boat.
Instead, the car+boat is supplied with three separate fittings. These include the slit tool (to use in tight places, such as between your car seats), a mini-motorhead (best used for your mattress, stairs or sofa) and a combination tool (a great all-rounder).

The Car+Boat has an easy to remove filter on the top, which ‘lifts’, and a second at the back of the machine that ‘dagging’. At 1.9 kg, the smart -looking vacuum is not too heavy, especially if you only use it for fast tasks. It is also relatively small, so you can fit in most holes.

I only have two complaints about the design of the car+boat. First, it has no on/off switch. Instead, use the dreaded Dyson trigger to provide it with power. This can be a bit uncomfortable to hold, especially if you vacuum for more than 10 minutes.
Secondly, while the 0.54l transparent bin is generous for a handheld -vacuum, making it a different story. To let the caught dirt in it, you must raise the red tab at the top of the machine until it ‘clicks’.
But before you do this, place your handheld -vacuum above a trash can because it automatically opens the compartment and frees all the mess inside. You have to give the red ‘release’ tab magazine a harder appetite than you would expect. That said, after a few attempts it becomes less awkward.
Performance and functions
- Effortless to set up
- Powerful 115 AW suction, which records 99.99% of the particles of only 0.3 micron (which is small!)
- Long, five hours of loading time
Before using your vacuum, you must charge it. There is a blue battery indicator light on the side of the machine. Leave it connected until the indicator is full and it is good to go.
The pure amount of dirt and dust collected in the container is proof of the effectiveness of the car+boat
Eventually I used the crack tool and then the mini motorized head to tackle my car. The crack tool was ideal for weaving the side of seats, in the foot weather, under the seats, collecting stones, mud and dirt while it went. The Mini Motorhead was the best for the boot.

I used the ‘max’ mode for the bank cushions and stairs and it shocked (and somewhat shocked) about how much dirt and dust I could see rising in the container before my eyes. And this all comes from the powerful performance of Dyson, who packs a blow.
The engine runs at 110,000 revolutions per minute, which means high speed in the terms of laymen. The hefty 115 AW (Air Watts) of suction power and filtration levels are from top class. The filter can capture 99.99% of the particles in the air that are 0.3 micron or larger and the enormous amount of dirt and dust collected in the container is proof of the effectiveness of the car+boat.
But what is great about the Dyson Car+boat is that it not only tackles the dirt that you can see not only, it will also be Fine Dust invisible to the naked eye. The species that is embedded in bank cushions after years of use, mattresses, stairs and car seats. In terms of performance it is doing so well.
But all this power costs a cost. The real performance problem I had with the Dyson Car+Boat is that it takes up to five hours to fully charge. This kind of goes against the ‘fast’ clear-up nature of a handheld and I know I would find this still frustrating if the battery gave up the mind halfway through a cleaning session.
But having said that, this did not happen when I used it. You get a solid 50 -minute duration, but much less if you use ‘max’ suction mode. Hopefully this should be more than enough time to vacuum the smaller surfaces for which it is intended. And if you really had to clean longer, you would use your main vacuum, right?
Price and availability
The Car+Boat costs £ 249.99 in the UK and costs $ 279.99 in the US.
Buy it from The Dyson UK website And Dyson Demo Stores now. In the US you can get it online from Dyson.
For a handheld this is pricey and you know whether or not you really need a special cleaner for vehicles and difficult to clean with this type of suction. But if you do that, it is a very good option – and it costs less than the entire V8, which is supplied with a wand and carpet.
That said, the V8 is a much older model and there are often deals with which you can create one for less than a car+boat. Keep in mind that the standard V8 is a bit heavier in the handheld mode and has a shorter battery life.
If you already have a Dyson V8, are a later model and are happy with it, it is cheaper (and more environmentally friendly) to simply invest in the MINI Motorized tool head. This is the only attachment with which it is not delivered, and it will simply reduce you £ 45.

Do you have to buy the Dyson car+boat?
If you have been wearable, wearable, portable, the Car+boat for a long time behind a powerful, durable, portable, wearable, cleaning agent. It does all the hard work for you, getting the long-term crumbs from car-splits and disturbing amounts of fabric from furniture and difficult to reach places-where the powerful suction of the crowd stands out.
Remember that this portable device takes five hours to charge. So I would recommend charging it after you used it, because there is nothing worse than reaching your handheld vacuum to tackle a fast cleaning track and find it powerless. Moreover, the car+boat is not supplied with a docking station. If that bothers you, you have to do that Pay an extra £ 25 for one.
All in all, the CAR+Boat offers a very powerful cleaning solution for removing dirt from stains that can otherwise be left to their own substance-striking devices. I just can’t help it, but be curious to know if boat owners will say that too. Answers on a postcard, please!
