Dyson’s Airwrap has become somewhat of a legend in the world of at-home hair styling. It is undoubtedly the most bougie, high-end hair styling kit you can buy.
You can read our review of the original Airwrap, plus Shark’s competing but more budget-friendly FlexStyle, and see how they compare in our head-to-head review of the two multi-stylers.
But now there’s a new Airwrap in town. Read on to discover all the details.
What is the Airwrap ID?
The Airwrap ID is Dyson’s newly announced follow-up to the Airwrap. Like the original, it’s powered by Dyson’s V9 motor and uses hot air to curl, wave or straighten your hair, always keeping the temperature below 150°C/300°F to prevent damage .
But the Airwrap ID is also a Bluetooth device, so you can program your hair profile in the MyDyson app and get customized hair curl settings.
It comes with a range of new attachments, bringing the total number of possible styling accessories to 16. However, you don’t get them all in one set: you choose between a straight and wavy or curly and spiral package and receive six attachments that are suitable for your hair type.
It will be available in two colorways: ceramic patina and topaz, and vinca blue and topaz.
When is the Airwrap ID available for purchase?
At this stage, Dyson has not announced an exact release date. All we know is that it will be available soon.
You can sign up for the Dyson newsletter in Great Britain or in the US to be the first to know when it will be available.
How much does the Airwrap ID cost?
In Britain it costs £499.99. Dyson hasn’t confirmed the US price to us, but we expect it to be $599.99.
Where can you buy the Airwrap ID?
You can buy it at Dyson online in Great Britain and Dyson US, and from Dyson demo stores.
What functions does the Airwrap ID have?
Attachments
Three new attachments are available:
- Conical cylinder for more defined curls
- Wave and curl diffuser to form a natural curl pattern

But which one you get depends on whether you choose the straight and wavy or curly and spiral kit. Each kit comes with six attachments, but you can purchase others separately to give your kit more reach.
The straight and wavy kit includes:
- Conical barrel
- 40mm long barrel
- Soft smoothing brush
- Large round volumizing brush
- Drier and smoother
- Fast dryer
The Colly and Curly set includes:
- Conical barrel
- Wave+curl diffuser
- Wide comb
- Firm smoothing brush
- Large round volumizing brush
- Fast dryer
Connected features
The main smart feature is what Dyson calls id curl. In the MyDyson app, you enter your hair type, hair length, and your styling skill level, and the app will recommend a curling routine.
Accept it, and when you press the power button, the Airwrap ID will automatically wrap, style and secure the hair, adjusting the heat and airflow to the user’s needs.
Maintenance
The app also helps you keep your Airwrap ID in perfect condition by alerting you when it’s time to clean the filter (although a flashing light on the styler itself gives the same information) and providing cleaning advice.
We will update this article as more information becomes available, and will test the Airwrap ID as soon as possible. In the meantime, check out our reviews of the best hair straighteners and the best hair dryers for our top tech hair care recommendations.
