Netflix’s limited series adaptation ‘East of Eden’ rounds out its cast.
Variety has learned that Tracy Letts (“Saturday Night,” “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty”), Martha Plimpton (“The Regime,” “Mass”), Ciarán Hinds (“Belfast,” “Game of Thrones”) , Joseph Zada (“We Were Liars”, “Invisible Boys”) and Joe Anders (“Bonus Track”, “I Am Ruth”) have all joined the series.
They will appear alongside previously announced cast members Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist and Hoon Lee.
Letts plays Cyrus Trask, Plimpton plays Faye, Hinds plays Samuel Hamilton, Zada plays Cal Trask and Anders plays Aron Trask.
Based on John Steinbeck’s novel of the same name, the series is said to “explore the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, drawing new attention to the indelible antihero, Cathy Ames (Pugh).”
Production on the seven-episode series is now underway in New Zealand. In addition to writing, Zoe Kazan is executive producer and co-showrunner. Her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the original film adaptation starring James Dean. Jeb Stuart also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer. In addition to starring, Pugh will also executive produce. Garth Davis will direct and serve as executive producer of the first four episodes. Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre will produce and direct episodes five through seven. Antoine Douiahy and Zack Hayden also serve as executive producers. Fifth Season and Anonymous Content are co-studios on the series.
