Middle-class parents have welcomed the government’s move to introduce a 20 per cent VAT charge on private school fees, according to education secretary Bridget Phillipson.

The Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, has repeated the government’s position on levying VAT on private school costs, and insists that closures in the sector are not a new development.

Mrs Phillipson appeared today on Camilla Tominey on GB News and acknowledged that parents are now dealing with a choice in terms of reimbursement education, but stated that she does not intend to return the policy.

“I don’t want a disruption of the education of children if that would result,” said Mrs. Phillipson. “But as companies, private schools will be confronted with choices about how they manage their money. Parents also have choices about how they spend them. If they choose not to choose a certain school and demand falls, it is how the market works. “

When she was comfortable to see further closures of the private school under her watch, Mrs. Phillipson noted that a falling birth rate has already led to “considerable number of reserve places”, both in the state and private sectors. By emphasizing that many private schools have been closed over the years, she emphasized that it is “not a new phenomenon” and that the wider trend has been dating for the VAT policy for a long time.

Defend policy

The government’s decision to impose VAT on private education has led to debate and concern among some parents and school managers, who are afraid of rising reimbursements, can cause more branches to close. Mrs Phillipson, however, seemed determined in her approach:

“Private schools have been, as I said, closed for many, many years – this is not a new phenomenon. The policy is and I see no reason to leave. ‘

Welcome of Trump’s position on Ukraine

Shift -focus of Education, Mrs. Phillipson also used her appearance GB -Tieuws To tackle international matters, in particular the current conflict in Ukraine. In a movement that can surprise some observers, she expressed support for recent calls from former US President Donald Trump to negotiate a peaceful resolution:

“We believe that the British government should act and play a greater role,” Mrs. Phillipson told presenter Camilla Tominey. “That is why we welcome President Trump’s approach to bringing parties to the negotiating table and in the search for a permanent and permanent arrangement for Ukraine.”

Mrs Phillipson has linked the conflict at home to rising costs and economic instability at home, which underlines the government’s dedication to increase defense issues. She noted that billions of pounds are promised annually to support Ukrainian effort, describing the conflict as one with ‘major consequences here in terms of energy bills [and] The instability that is caused. ‘

Recognizing that the defense budget had already risen under the recent package of the Chancellor, Mrs Phillipson suggested that there is room to accelerate existing timelines for further expenses:

‘It has been discussed about getting [Defence spending] Up to 2.5% of GDP by 2028, not 2030, “she said. “In addition, we are committed to achieving 2.5% and we will go there.”

Although VAT remains controversial on private school costs, Mrs Phillipson does not seem convinced by arguments that it will lead to an unprecedented wave of closures. Instead, pointing to broader demographic shifts, she repeated the government’s position that private schools should adapt to market forces – a position that will probably keep a vibrant debate in the coming months.

In the meantime, her supporting comments about Trump’s diplomatic suggestions point to endorse a wide range of interventions in the Ukraine crisis, so that further research is placed on how the UK can accelerate the resolution of the conflict. As both educational and challenges on foreign policy continue to evolve, the solid positions of Mrs Phillipson on these issues will undoubtedly remain in the spotlight.
