On Saturday, Elon Musk shared who he supports as Treasury Secretary Xa cabinet position that newly elected President Donald Trump has not yet announced.
Musk wrote that Howard Lutnick, co-chairman and CEO of the Trump-Vance transition and chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald, chairman of BGC Group and Newmark Group, “will effect real change.”
Lutnick and Key Square Group founder and CEO Scott Bessent are reportedly top picks to lead the Treasury Department.
Musk, CTesla’s EO and SpaceX, also included his thoughts on Bessent in his post on X.
“My view is that Bessent is a ‘business as usual’ choice,” he wrote.
“Business-as-usual is driving America bankrupt, so we need change somehow,” he added.
Musk also said it would be “interesting to hear more people think about this so @realDonaldTrump can consider feedback.”

In a statement to PoliticsTrump transition spokesperson Karoline Leavitt made it clear that the newly elected president has not made any decisions about the position of Treasury Secretary.
“President-elect Trump is making decisions about who will serve in his second administration,” Leavitt said in a statement. “These decisions will be announced as soon as they are made.”
Both Lutnick and Bessent have close ties to Trump. Lutnick and Trump have known each other for decades, and the CEO even hosted a fundraiser for the newly elected president.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that Lutnick has already helped Trump vet candidates for Cabinet positions in his administration.
On the other hand, Bessent was a key economic advisor to the president-elect during his 2024 campaign. Bessent also received support from Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, according to him Semafor.
“He’s from South Carolina, I know him well, he’s highly qualified,” Graham said.
