Emmy predictions for 2024:
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie
Weekly Commentary (Updated: August 12, 2024): Jodie Foster is the frontrunner to win her first Emmy Award for her work in the anthology crime series “True Detective: Night Country,” especially with 19 nominations for the show. However, a distorted choice could be lurking in the wings.
Sofia Vergara received her first Emmy nomination as a lead actress for her role as Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in Netflix’s crime thriller series “Griselda.” The historic name makes her the first Colombian-born actress and the second Latina actress nominated in the limited series category. This follows her four previous bids for a supporting actress comedy actress for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on ABC’s “Modern Family.” With multiple invites from the TV Academy, she has yet to hear her name called to make the walk to the Emmy stage, despite many experts believing she should have won at least one statuette during her run. Could this be her year? Don’t be surprised if the star pulls it off.
The Creative Arts and Governors Gala ceremonies will take place over two evenings, September 7 and 8. The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards airs Sunday, September 15 on ABC.

The Primetime Emmy Awards, better known as the Emmys, are presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). Founded in 1949, these celebrate outstanding achievements in American primetime television. The Emmys are divided into three divisions: the Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Performance and Production; the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, recognizing achievements in artistry and craft; and the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards, which recognize significant engineering and technological advancements. The eligibility period generally runs from June 1 to May 31 of each year. The Television Academy hosts the Emmys and has more than 20,000 members across 30 professional peer groups, including artists, directors, producers, art directors, artisans and executives.
