Disney’s ESPN and Major League Baseball break out after almost 40 years together, a sign of how even the most sustainable contalions in the streaming era have been investigated, whereby sports rights are lagging behind increasing and entertainment conglomerates to find out how to pay the bill.
“We are grateful for our long-term relationship with Major League Baseball and proud of how ESPN’s Coverage Super reserves fans,” ESPN said in a statement on Thursday evening. “When making this decision, we applied the same discipline and tax responsibility that the leading live events portfolio of ESPN has built up while we continue to grow our audience on linear, digital and social platforms. As we have been during the entire process, we remain open to exploring new ways to operate MLB fans on our platforms after 2025. ”
