After months of speculation and rumors, HBO has finally announced news about the third season of Euphoria. According to a statement from the channel, work on the series is expected to begin next winter.
Euphoria is one of HBO’s most popular and highest-rated series, but season 3’s development is following a bumpy path. First, production was delayed by a strike by actors and screenwriters, and then it turned out that Sam Levinson needed more time to work on the script than initially expected. The stars’ popularity also became an issue, as they found it increasingly difficult to find time to appear in the HBO production.
After a wild season 2 finale, fans are eagerly awaiting the new episodes of Euphoria. We’ve rounded up all the news about this excellent HBO teen drama.
Euphoria season 3 possible release date
According to the latest information from HBO, work on the set of season 3 will begin in January 2025.
Francesca Orsi, the EVP and Head of Drama, HBO Programming for Home Box Office, said:
I’m thrilled that we’re ready to start production on ‘Euphoria’ in January. We couldn’t be happier with our creative collaboration with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for fans.
Orsi has not yet announced a release date for Euphoria season 3. However, if nothing unexpected happens, we hope that the new episodes will be released in early 2026, making it a long wait for fans of the series.
HBO originally announced that Euphoria would return to Max in 2025.
In an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Sydney Sweeney revealed that she would soon be working on the set of Euphoria.
However, it was later announced that the script for the new episodes was not yet ready, and it was uncertain when it would be completed, as the cast had been allowed to work on other projects.
That said, HBO has always been committed to continuing the show, as a spokesperson told Variety:
HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to an exceptional third season. In the meantime, we’ll let our in-demand cast pursue other opportunities.
Euphoria season 3 plot
Spoilers for Euphoria season 2 below.
The second season of Euphoria was full of drama and ended on a typically sour note.
Cassie and Nate’s romance led to a tumultuous end to the girl’s friendship with Maddy. Nate himself reported his father, Cal, to the police, who was arrested for possession of explicit juvenile material.
The highlight of the season was a school play prepared by Lexi, inspired by the lives of her and her classmates. However, the hilarious performance had unforeseen consequences. An enraged Nate broke up with Cassie, who then took the stage and was attacked by a vengeful Maddy.
Unfortunately, Fez, who befriended Lexi during the season, did not make it to the show. Just before leaving, the dealer and his brother Ashtray got into a shootout with police. As a result, Fez was injured and Ash was killed.
The only positive element at the end of the season was Rue’s reconciliation with Jules and Elliot after her dramatic drug crisis.
If you’re hoping to find out what happened right after the messy school play in Season 3, you might be surprised. According to costume designer Heidi Bivens, there will be a time jump between seasons in the future, which could last as long as five years. This means that the next time we see Rue and her classmates, they will be young adults.
When asked about season 3, Sam Levinson revealed to Elle that he wanted to use the convention of film noir to “tell the story of Rue, who explores what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world. ”

Unfortunately, Euphoria season 3 will not return Angus Cloud which played fan-favorite Fezco. In July 2023, the actor died of a drug overdose. It is still unclear how the makers of the show will explain Fez’s absence in the upcoming season.
We probably won’t see it in the new episodes Javon Walton as an ashtray. Fez’s bizarre brother was most likely killed during the Scarface-esque shootout with police.
In 2022, Barbie Ferreirawho starred as Kat Hernandez, announced that she is leaving the series.
