Former White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin acknowledged Monday that “the conversation today has to be about political rhetoric” after the apparent second attempt on Donald Trump’s life.
“But one of the biggest offenders of escalating rhetoric is Donald Trump and JD Vance,” Griffin noted to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.
Republican candidate Trump and his running mate have both spoken about Democrats being to blame, ignoring their own inflammatory comments.
Right now is “a moment for sobriety that calls for serious leadership,” Griffin said. “Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be a moment of self-reflection, even though it was the candidate, Donald Trump, who was himself the victim.”
Griffin mentioned Trump’s “screed” to Fox News after the reported assassination attempt, saying Democrats are “responsible” for the rhetoric, but then undercutting himself by claiming they are also the “enemy within.”
“That’s the kind of language our opponents like to hear us use,” the former Trump aide said. “It’s tearing us apart from within. And besides, it puts people at risk.”
On “The View,” which Griffin co-hosts, she addressed the questions the apparent second attempt had raised.
