Ex-Bush WH official says Trump Springfield visit could come at 'absolute worst time'

A former Bush 43 White House official advised Donald Trump and his running mate Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) to “stay away” if they both planned to visit a community rocked by the aftermath of their racist lie about Springfield, Ohio.

Pete Seat, who served as spokesman under President George W. Bush’s administration, told CNN’s Jim Acosta on Wednesday that he thinks about visits like those a president would make after a natural disaster.

“You know, when a president goes to the scene of a hurricane or tornado, resources are taken away. Law enforcement and first responders must care for the president, or in this case, the former president who is visiting,” he said.

He continued, “I think this would be the absolute worst time for Donald Trump to visit that city because it would divert resources that are needed elsewhere.”

Seat’s comments come more than a week after the Republican candidate raised the racist claim that Haitian immigrants eat pets in the Ohio community during his debate against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Springfield – in the days that followed – has seen more than 30 bomb threats While Mayor Rob Rue said he would be “fine” if Trump did not visit the city, citing an “extreme strain” on resources if he were to stop.

The former president announced at a rally Wednesday night that he would be going to Springfield “in the next two weeks” and suggested that his supporters “may never see him again” after the visit.

After Acosta called Vivek Ramaswamy’s visit to the Ohio community, Seat called the former presidential candidate “bombastic and useless” and noted that he is trying to ignore him.

The Republican commentator later noted that Vance is loyal to his ticket, adding that there is a “perfect and now heartbreaking storm” that has engulfed Springfield.

“I hate watching it. As the only child of immigrant parents, I completely agree. We are supposed to love your neighbor, we are all supposed to work together as a community in this country, but unfortunately this country is broken,” he said.

“It’s not just about political rhetoric and political violence. We are broken and we must mend our boundaries between ideologies, regions and racial boundaries.
