WASHINGTON — Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Robert Califf said he is uncertain about the agency’s future under the new Trump administration and “disappointed” with the outcome of the election.
“I think we just don’t know what’s going to happen,” Califf said Tuesday at a conference hosted by the nonprofit Friends of Cancer Research. “The essence of this government, from everything that has been said, is that they want to change a lot of things, and how that changes depends on who is appointed to key positions.”
The agency’s ability to hire and retain skilled workers could be in jeopardy given the support of Trump ally Robert F. Kennedy Jr. hostility towards officialssaid Califf. Trump has said he plans to give Kennedy, leader of the “Make America Healthy Again” movement, power over health care policy in his administration.
