The FDA banned Red Dye No. 3, unveiled nutrition labels that pushed the food industry to make America healthier, and proposed vastly reducing nicotine levels in cigarettes.
Consumer advocates had been calling on the FDA to ban the dye for years, Lizzy Lawrence and Sarah Todd tell us, and the additive was found to cause cancer in rats more than three decades ago. HHS Secretary nominee RFK Jr. has also been critical of the FDA’s slow pace and wants to crack down on other additives.
