Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell speaks at the New York Times DealBook conference on Wednesday.
The appearances come two weeks before the date the central bank will announce its decision on interest rates and are Powell’s last public appearance before then.
Markets strongly expect the Fed to cut its benchmark interest rate by another quarter of a percentage point from its current target of 4.5%-4.75%. The rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee cut the federal funds rate by a total of three-quarters of a point at its meetings in September and November.
In recent days, policymakers have expressed some concern about the recent rise in inflation, suggesting a cautious policy approach when looking at the data.
